LONGSHOTS SPLIT

LICEY FORFEITS, COMES BACK TO WIN GAME 2

Six Diamonds-- After having to wait out a one hour delay waiting for Licey players to show up, the LongShots stumbled in game 2. There was a few misplays in the field, as well as a few balls that carried off of the bats of Licey. Tony Cuevas suffered the loss despite a strong outing and only allowing one earned run. Tony Guagenti pitched brilliantly in relief as he went three strong innings in his first outing of the season.

News & Notes: The LongShots picked up their 5th victory by way of forfeit, not a trend that you would like to see repeated, but that seems to have been the case as the LongShots have yet to play back-to-back weeks of doubleheader softball. There is news on the Veterans forfeit front, as the commish will set up an additional DH between the Browns, so long as the Browns agree to the matchup.

LONGSHOTS COMEBACK........AGAIN

LONGSHOTS SWEEP TRASH, RIDING HOT STREAK

Six Diamonds-- After several weeks of being away from the field the LongShots showed clear signs of rust early on as they fell behind 6-0 after an inning and a half. The offense and defense woke up with the bottom of the order coming through in the 2nd inning scoring 2 runs. The LongShots offense continued to chip away at the lead, as Tony Cuevas and the defense held Trash off of the board for the remainder of the game. Trailing 6-5 in the bottom of the 7th inning Frankie Delgado singled to lead off the inning two batters later Joe Dunne drew a walk to put runners on first and second with one out. Tony decided to help himself tying the game with an RBI single and Jose Santana won it in the next at bat singling in Dunne with the winning run.

In game 2, the Bats continued to stay hot asa the first six batters reached base with five of them coming around to score, the inning was highlighted by a 3-run RBI triple by Joe Losi. After jumping out to a 9-0 lead Trash scored their only runs in the bottom of the 3rd inning. The LongShots added two more in the top of the 7th to win by a score of 11-2. Jose Santana struck out two batters and earned his first victory of the season.

News & Notes: After making a throwing error early on in game 1, Gene Ruda made a nice barehanded play up the middle to take away a hit in the 7th inning of game 1.

LONGSHOTS - MARLINS

WEEK # 4

Six Diamonds-- This weeks opponents were the Marlins (3-1). They came into the weekend collecting three shutouts and allowing a league low three earned runs up until this point in the season. The LongShots took the field to start the game and quickly fell into a hole as the Marlins scored four unearned runs in the first inning. Those runs held up until the bottom of the fourth when the LongShots plated four runs of their own. Steve Giorgio highlighted the inning with a game tying two out, two run homerun. Both teams traded runs in the sixth inning and the Marlins took the lead as the game went into extra innings by scoring three times in the top half of the inning. The LongShots came up with the bottom three in the order due up. The bats were responded with four runs in the bottom of the inning to win the game. Tony Cuevas (1-1) went the distance and earned the win. Hondo delivered a big extra inning double that started the scoring. The second game of the doubleheader was another well pitched game by the LongShots, but a few excuse me hits and a miscue in the field helped the Marlins to a 9-3 victory.

News & Notes: Steve Giorgio shake-n-bake's his way out of his cleats as his left cleat breaks at the seem and he finished the game in one sneaker and one shoe. The fourth week of the 2008 season got underway this past Saturday and although it was the fourth week of the season the LongShots were only playing in their second contest of the year. Week one was a washout vs the cobras and week three the Brooklyn Bums were unable to field a team and had to forfeit. After several weeks of waiting, the new jerseys have finally come in.
