THE SUNDAY SLUGGER
Staten Island, NY – This past Sunday, Rob "Hondo"
Demartini playing for APD of the S.I.S.A. stepped to the
plate in the bottom of the 7th inning with the bases
loaded, one out and the tying run on second base. Hondo
grounded a slow roller to the shortstop and busted it
out of the box. The ball was flipped to the second
baseman, and he had to hurry his throw to first base to
try and get Hondo and end the game. Hondo beat out the
errant throw to first base as the runner from second
came around to tie the game. The ball briefly got away
from the first baseman and thinking that he would throw
it home, Hondo tried to take second, but was thrown out
to end the inning. The game lasted another 2 innings and
was finished as a 8-8 tie, all thanks to the Sunday
Slugger.
Bio -- It was Hondo himself that put together the first
LongShots team back in the fall of 2005. In the fall of
2006, Hondo increased his batting average by an
incredible 101 points from the spring. Hondo recorded a
personal best 5 RBI on May 6, 2006. Along with being one
of the veterans on the LongShots, he has been a constant
on his Sunday team A.P.D. for the past 10 years.
